Welcome to Music In the Great Hall
We are proud to present the 34th season of Music in the Great Hall.
We hope that you agree that Music in the Great Hall continues to
provide the kind of quality and varied programming and performers
that you have come to expect. For our long-term subscribers,
please note that we have changed our format and programs will now be
on Sunday only. We hope that those of you that have traditionally
come on Friday evenings will join us on Sundays at 3 p.m.
(the September 16th concert will be at 5 p.m.)
This season, our programming runs the gamut from core repertoire to the
unusual. Our spectacular season opener in September features BSO
concertmaster Jonathan Carney performing all three Brahms violin sonatas.
In November, the magnificent Mendelssohn Piano Trio will perform. We
continue to support young performers in our annual Yale Gordon/Peabody
Competition winner’s concert in January. In March, the remarkable young
piano duo of Saar Ahuvia and Stephanie Ho will perform. These rising
stars in the piano world will play a diverse program of solo and duo
repertoire. To conclude our season, Adam Mahonske and baritone Vincent
Stringer will perform Schubert’s cycle of 24 songs, Winterreise, one of
the greatest works of nineteenth-century classical music.
The Baltimore Sun has described Music in the Great Hall as “one of the
area’s longest running and most consistently attractive concert series.”
We promise to live up to that standard in our 34th season. Our programming
represents a diverse mix of the familiar, the unfamiliar and new works.
This season’s performers are all new to the series. As always, the Board
and I invite you to join us in our intimate space, presenting chamber music
in an ideal setting. We continue to believe that Music in the Great Hall
represents the best value in chamber music programming anywhere in the
Baltimore region. We thank you for your continued support and look forward
to seeing you this season.
